Process audit framework

  • List every process a team member repeats more than 10 times a week — these are your automation candidates, not the exceptions.
  • For each process, note: trigger (what starts it), steps involved, systems touched, and current time cost per occurrence.
  • Flag processes where the same information is manually re-typed into more than one system — a strong automation signal.
  • Separate 'needs judgement' steps (should stay human) from 'follows a rule' steps (can be automated) within each process.
FAQ

If it's repeated more than 10 times a week, follows a consistent rule (not constant judgement calls), and involves re-typing the same data into more than one system, it's a strong candidate.

No — start with one high-impact, low-complexity process, measure the result for 2-4 weeks, then expand. Trying to automate everything at once is the most common way automation projects stall.
